Brendan Rodgers provides injury update on Wesley Fofana ahead of Community Shield clash

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on Wesley Fofana ahead of Community Shield clash against Manchester City. Fofana has suffered a fractured fibula during the Foxes' pre-season friendly with Villarreal. The 20-year-old was treated by doctors and physios on the pitch for five minutes, he was also given oxygen before he was lifted onto a stretcher and wheeled off to standing ovation from 17,000 fans. Fofana was taken taken to hospital, after which he posted on Instagram, while he was awaiting the final diagnosis. In a featured picture, the defender is smiling, but says “it is a bad day”. He is expected to be out for at least a few months while he recovers, although further assessments will give a clearer picture of his time on the sidelines.
Fofana wrote: “Hello guys, many thanks for all your messages. It is a bad day today but I am in a tremendous club with a wonderful medical team.   “I will give you news as soon as I have a final diagnosis but we already know that I have a fibula fracture. I will come soon and stronger. Do not worry, I am a warrior."
And ahead of Saturday's Community Shield final, Rodgers was asked to provide an injury update on Fofana.
“He fractured his fibula," said Leicester boss. "So it’s a horrendous injury for us and we are devastated for him. He’s a top class player so he’s going to be a huge loss for us.   "Our medical team were fantastic. They looked after him. Our trauma doctor was able to put his ankle back in place. Then he went to the hospital. He has another scan today, which he couldn’t have last night because the ankle was so swollen .That will give us a clearer indication of how long he will be out for.   “Where he is fortunate, is that if it does come at any time, he’s at the start of his career. I got a video from his last night and he was smiling and happy. He’s ready to come back stronger. He’s a very tough boy, you see that on the field. I’ve no doubt he will be stronger for it. It was a horrible evening for us all.”
