Alan Shearer picks out Manchester City's unsung hero in their win over Liverpool

Alan Shearer has praised Raheem Sterling after his performance in Manchester City's 4-1 victory over Liverpool. Sterling scored the third goal and the win lifted City 10 points clear of the defending champions, with a game in hand. Shearer praised the impact of Sterling on the game. "I thought he (Raheem Sterling) was brilliant," he said on Match of the Day. "It was very, very tight in that first half but I thought he was the one that could unlock the door - and that's exactly what happened with the penalty City missed. "He was incredibly positive every time he got the ball, because there was no direct forward there - someone to be that target man or to run in behind. So he had to be positive when he got his chance one v one. He went at Trent Alexander-Arnold and (it was a) great piece of skill when he goes past him to get the penalty for his team. "In the second half, that didn't really change. He was a constant threat and he gave Trent a really tough time. And it's his work rate - albeit another mistake from the goalkeeper - but he gets his goal that I think his performance deserved. It could have been Zinchenko, it could have been Stones and Foden. There were some very good performances in there." Sterling became the third player who scored more than 100 goals in all competitions under boss Pep Guardiola.
