5 Things We Learned: Premier League Round 14

Round 14 of the Premier League has ended for some on a good note, for others in disappointment.
As usual, the Premier League brings games that are entertaining and full of action. This weekend was no exception.
Here are 5 things we learned from this week’s action.

5. Liverpool cannot lose focus
The Vitality Stadium witnessed a Premier League classic on Sunday, as Bournemouth hosted Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s players started well. Sadio Mane opened the score and Divock Origi doubled the Reds’ advantage 22 mins’ played. Despite referee’s penalty denial in the first half, The Cherries started the second half very positive and dangerous and were awarded a penalty. Callum Wilson brought one back for the home side. Emre Can restored a two-goal cushion for Liverpool.
Bournemouth refused to give up.
Bournemouth vs Liverpool 4-3
The Cherries stayed in the game and the final fifteen minutes were crucial for both teams. Bournemouth used all their chances and not only managed to bring two goals back in course of 3 minutes, but also turned the tables with an injury time winner by Nathaniel Ake who formed the final score 4-3 to Bournemouth. The Reds lost the concentration and as a result lost the opportunity to climb up to 2nd place in the league table.

4. Alexis Sanchez is crucial for Arsenal
What else to say. The little Chilian  is on fire. West Ham struggled against United in the EFL Cup and could not get back to winning ways. On the other hand Wenger’s Arsenal completely dominated the Hammers. Alexis Sanchez hat trick  put him near Diego Costa in Premier League top scorer’s list (11 goals both), and got him the Man of The Match award.

Due to Man City and Liverpool losses, Arsenal climb to 2nd in the League with 31 points from 14 matches.

3. Man City must kill games
A disappointing Saturday for Pep and his players, as they lost a decisive game to London Blues. Man City hosted  Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. 1 point between City and Chelsea. If City wins they go top of the table with 2 points ahead of Chelsea. Man City dominated Chelsea in the first minutes, but Conte’s players handled the pressure and managed to come back in the game. Both teams created chances to score, but both were unlucky. The 1st half ended on a sour note for Chelsea, as Gary Cahill own goal put the Citizens upfront. Manchester City created many chances but failed to score in the second half and were unable to hold back the Chelsea comeback.
Pep Guardiola Man City
“We lost the game because we missed a lot of chances” Said Guardiola in post-match press conference.

2. United need to score more
A common problem for a team managed by Jose Mourinho. It’s a known fact –  The Special One looks on things more defensively and maybe that was the reason Everton managed to get a draw at Goodison Park last Sunday. 1 Ibrahimovic goal was not enough to get 3 points for The Red Devil’s. United need to create more chances. Armenia International Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs to start regularly in order to supply the strikers with chances

1. Chelsea restored character

An important game for Conte’s Chelsea, and a positive result. Despite going 1-0 down in the end of the 1st half, The Blues managed to keep calm and kept attacking. City almost scored the second goal, but former Chelsea player Kevin De Bruyne could not put the ball in an empty net and hit the crossbar. After that the way was open for The Blues. Costa hit the equaliser after a Fabregas long ball. 2 fast counter-attacks and Chelsea lead 3-1. Right before the final whistle things turned ugly. A dangerous challenge on David Luiz and Sergio Aguero was sent off.
Man City vs Chelsea
Things got  messy when a fight broke near the manager’s technical areas. The referee decided to send off the second City man  – Fernandinho. Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah received yellow cards.
One thing can be said for sure – Chelsea restored their character. Captain’s own goal hit the Blues morale but they managed to turn the tables and win the game in style to secure their place in the top of the league.
