Giles: Bale need to leave Ronaldo to be great

Republic of Ireland national team legend Johnny Giles commented on Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale's potential in world football and the disadvantages of playing in the same team with Cristiano Ronaldo. "It seems to me that he[Bale] needs to get away from Ronaldo to make the final step," Giles wrote in the Irish Independent. "His problem is that he is trying to find room to express his talent in a team controlled by a gigantic ego. Bale is good enough to be the main man but he can't be while Ronaldo is around. "While Ronaldo, with all his money and medals, still feels the need to show off, still stands on the tips of his toes to make himself big in team photos, Bale gets on with his work and plays for the team," the legend concluded. Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have been playing together for Real Madrid since 2013. The Wales international has played in 22 games in the current season, having scored nine goals and assisted four times.
