Paul Merson has urged Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United to play regular football.
The England international is anticipated to depart from Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window due to a lack of playing time.
Despite holding the captaincy for the Red Devils, the 30-year-old has only been included in Erik Ten Hag's starting lineup eight times this season.
Furthermore, with the competition for his position getting intense with the signings of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, it's highly believed that the defender will find his way out of Manchester after spending four years at the club.
Speaking via Caught Offside, the pundit claimed that departure would be the best option for Maguire as Premier League rivals West Ham United and Newcastle United are interested in the player.
“Yeah, it’s hard though, he’s at the biggest club in the world in my opinion,”
“I know they’re not performing like the biggest club in the world but they’re a huge club and he’s there, so wherever he goes from here is going to be a down[grade].”
“He’s worked so hard, from where he’s come from to get to Leicester then to get to Man Utd, it’s probably hard for him to leave, but he has to leave.”
