Manchester City are currently interested in signing Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. According to reports, City have entered the final stages of their pursuit for Kovacic.
The 29-year-old has been with the Blues since 2018 and his contract with the club expires in 2024. He initially joined the club on loan during the 2018/19 season and his contract became permanent in 2019.

The 29-year-old currently wears number 8 at Chelsea and could get this number at the Premier League champions' side as well.
City's number 8 is Ilkay Gundogan, whose contract expires this summer, and it has been confirmed that Gundogan will leave the club. Meaning that his number would be vacated.
However, if Kovacic decides to take number 17, which he wore before the 2021/22 season at Chelsea after his move, he won't be able to succeed as that number belongs to Kevin De Bruyne.
