A long awaited Derby Day. Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge to face the current table toppers Chelsea.
A crucial fixture for both sides as Tottenham look to recover from Champions League disappointment and keep their unbeaten streak in the Premier League and Chelsea will be looking forward to keeping their winning – not conceding style of play.
Chelsea away is always tough for Spurs. Tottenham will face a tough Chelsea team as history backs The Blues’ confidence. The last time Chelsea lost to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge 26 years ago. Tottenham were close to breaking the unlucky streak during last season. Spurs started the game very well. Kane’s and Son’s goals stunned the Blues in the first half. But after leading the game 2-0 Pochettino’s boys were unable to keep that score. Gary Cahill brought one back from a corner kick, and Eden hazard’s equaliser formed the final score. A draw for Chelsea, a “defeat” for Tottenham as they lost the title race to Leicester City who celebrated Hazard’s equaliser for Chelsea, but surely the “winner” for the Foxes.
With Champions League out of schedule, it’s the right time to focus on the league, though Spurs can try their luck in Europa League. Chelsea’s top priority this season is the Premier League, and after the loss from the Gunners at Emirates, Conte’s boys transformed completely going unbeaten in 6 games in a row in the Premier League scoring 17 goals and conceding 0.
Both managers expect a tough game, that usually comes with a derby.
Pochettino noted that “its normal” if conflicts happen (regarding the last time these sides faced each other).
“That was a different game and its in the past” said Spurs boss in pre-match press conference.
Predicted starting line-ups.
The Blues will most likely keep the winning team. Antonio Conte won’t be making any big changes to a team with these results so the line-up will be the same as it was the previous 6 times. John Terry and John Obi Mikel both have muscular problems. They will not make the bench either.
Tottenham have problems in defence.
Pochettino has to think something out to replace suspended Dany Rose and injured Toby Alderweireld. Ben Davies is doubtful to be fit in time for the clash.
Score Prediction: Chelsea 2 – 0 Tottenham
Chelsea look confident to make take 3 points out of this fixture. Defensively the Blues have been invincible for the past 6 games and the atmosphere from the Bridge will contribute to Chelsea’s success. Premier League’s top goalscorer Diego Costa is in great form. Costa and the Belgium International Eden Hazard have 17 goals and 4 assists between them. Tottenham may still have a chance to take a point, but it is more likely for the Blues to come out victorious, as Spurs’ latest disappointment in Champions League and injury problems will, without a doubt, have their say in this match.
